Can I use funds to pay for housing or rent?
Yes, you can use the money in your Oregon ABLE account to pay for housing expenses. Plus, having an ABLE account doesn’t affect other housing benefits, like Section 8.
If you’re eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), please note that money withdrawn from your ABLE account must be used within the same month it was withdrawn, so it doesn’t inadvertently affect your SSI eligibility.
For example: If your rent is due on February 1st, we recommend contacting your landlord to explore adjusting the due date by a few days. This will allow you to withdraw the funds from your ABLE account in February (the same month your rent is due); protecting your benefits eligibility.
